La construcción inicio en el año 2023 y pese a que aún no concluye la primera etapa ha sido funcional
En temporada ciclónica, los sectores en la margen del río Duey, eran impactados constantemente por la crecida del río, llevándose todo a su paso y dejando damnificados a cientos de higüeyanos. Cerca de unos 20 años la comunidad exigía a los gobiernos de turno la intervención del río Duey para proteger a la población que vive en estado de vulnerabilidad en la margen del río.
Este gobierno inicio los trabajos en el año 2023 y aunque aún no concluyen, la primera etapa realizada ya da sus frutos y ha demostrado funcionabilidad.
La obra que según Luis Bastardo (Viceministro de Obras Públicas), tendría un costo total de 800 millones de pesos, ya se han invertido en la primera etapa unos 300 millones. Además de los muros de gaviones en la parte del Río Duey, que pasa por el sector de Villa Cerro, ya se construyeron otros tramos en el sector de La Florida y Antonio Guzmán.
La Federación de Juntas de Vecinos de la provincia La Altagracia y la sociedad en sentido general, espera que este tipo de obras tan importante para la seguridad y bienestar de la población que vive en la margen del río Duey, pueda concluirse todas sus etapas.
